Description

We are pleased to invite you to Ramapo for Children’s Annual Benefit on Monday, April 8, 2019 at the Loeb Boathouse in Central Park! This year’s event will celebrate the organization’s four exemplary programs and all those we serve and will honor the longstanding commitment of the Mendelsohn/Mellins family and Camp Director Emeritus, Mike Kunin.

The Mendelsohn/Mellins family’s deep commitment to Ramapo for Children dates back to 1922 when patriarch Walter Mendelsohn founded Camp Ramapo as a haven for “wayward boys.” Since Ramapo’s founding, members of the Mendelsohn/Mellins family have shown enormous ongoing commitment to the organization: Paul Mendelsohn (Walter’s son), Claude Ann Mellins (Walter’s granddaughter) and her husband Michael Conard, Eric Mendelsohn (Walter’s grandson), David Mellins (Walter’s grandson), and Teri Mendelsohn (Walter’s granddaughter) have dedicated a combined 60 years of service as counselors, administrators, architects, and board members.

Mike Kunin began his Ramapo journey alongside many members of the Mendelsohn/Mellins family. His 13 years as a counselor from 1979 - 1991 were a springboard to a career-long commitment to ensuring that Camp Ramapo continues to be a safe haven where children with a wide range of abilities can thrive. He has pursued this mission for 40 years and has impacted the lives of over 16,500 children in the process. Mike’s enthusiastic leadership continues to grow the Camp Ramapo community today as he engages with campers and their families year-round.
